From underground tunnels to cultural places,
commercial towers to sacred spaces…
Sydney Open is an annual day event presented by Sydney Living Museums celebrating the city’s rich heritage and great architecture.
On November 1, Sydney Open opens the doors to over 50 buildings, from CBD to Darlinghurst, giving the public an opportunity to explore and discover spaces usually “off limits”.
“Sydney Open unlocks the doors of the city’s most historic and architecturally inspiring buildings usually off-limits to the general public.”
Sydney Open is a self-guided experience complemented by suggested itineraries in the app tailored to suit different interests. Users can also view the entire list of buildings and build their own personal itinerary by ‘favouriting’ buildings.
The app integrates elements of:
- wayfinding (bus routes, navigation to buildings via Google Maps)
- placemaking (heritage and architecture)
- discovery (featured buildings, curated itineraries, social media)
Beaconmaker were brought on board to replace the existing app with with it’s whitelabel solution and enable new features such as the 'Home’ and 'Itinerary’ tab. In addition, we provided an Android version of the app (a platform previously unavailable with the previous app), managed content via our CMS - making front-end content changes seamless and immediate - and will support ongoing future app updates on both platforms for new features.
The full program for Sydney Open will be revealed and tickets will go on sale to the public on September 23. Download the app here.
